About Online Clipboard
Online Clipboard is a secure, real-time text sharing tool that lets you send text between any two devices instantly — phone to laptop, desktop to tablet, or any combination — without email, messaging apps, or cloud accounts. Create a session on one device, paste your text, and share it to the other device by scanning the QR code or entering the 6-character room code. Text syncs live over an encrypted WebSocket connection. The optional Read Once mode deletes the content the moment the receiver reads it, making it ideal for sharing passwords, OTPs, and sensitive text. Sessions automatically expire after your chosen time — 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour — and nothing is ever written to disk.
Real-Time WebSocket Sync
Text syncs instantly over a persistent WebSocket connection as you type — there is no Submit button to click. The receiving device sees every character appear in real time, as if you were typing on the same keyboard.
QR Code Sharing
A QR code containing the session link is generated automatically when you create a session. Scan it with the other device's camera to open the session directly without typing any code.
Read Once Mode
Enable Read Once mode to have the server permanently delete the content the moment the receiver confirms they have read it. Perfect for sharing temporary passwords, verification codes, and any text you want to ensure is seen only once.
Session Expiry Control
Choose a session lifetime of 5, 15, or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. When the timer expires the session and all its content are permanently deleted from server memory. No action required from you.
No Account or App Required
Works entirely in the browser — no app to install, no account to create, no phone number to verify. Open the URL on any device with a browser and a stable internet connection.
TLS-Encrypted Transport
All communication is over HTTPS and WSS (WebSocket Secure), meaning the connection is encrypted in transit. Content is stored only in server memory for the session duration and never written to any database or disk.
How to Use
- 1
Open the Send tab and create a session
Go to the Online Clipboard, click the Send tab, choose your session expiry time, optionally enable Read Once mode, then click Create Clipboard Session. A 6-character room code and QR code are generated immediately.
- 2
Type or paste your text
Type or paste the text you want to share into the session editor. The text is available to the receiver as soon as you enter it — there is no send button.
- 3
Share the code or QR
Share the 6-character room code verbally, via message, or by showing the QR code on your screen for the other device to scan. The QR code links directly to the session.
- 4
Open the Receive tab on the other device
On the receiving device, go to the Online Clipboard and click the Receive tab. Either scan the QR code with the camera app or type the 6-character code and press Connect.
- 5
Read and copy the text
The shared text appears in the receive panel. Click Copy to copy it to the device clipboard for immediate use. If Read Once mode is active, the content is deleted from the server after you copy it.
Real-World Use Cases
Cross-Device Code Sharing
A developer is debugging a mobile app on their phone and needs to send a stack trace to their laptop for analysis in VS Code. They create a clipboard session on the phone, paste the error log, and scan the QR code with the laptop camera. The full stack trace appears on the laptop in under 10 seconds — faster than AirDrop and without needing any Apple ecosystem.
Secure Password Sharing
A system administrator needs to share a temporary database password with a colleague sitting across the office. They open the clipboard, enable Read Once mode, paste the password, and show the QR code to their colleague. The colleague scans it, copies the password, and the server deletes it immediately. No messaging app history, no email thread, no clipboard residue on the server.
Copying Text from a Smart TV
A user is watching a YouTube video on a smart TV and wants to note down a URL or code shown on screen. They cannot type easily on the TV interface. A family member creates a clipboard session on their phone, types the URL, and the user on the TV scans the QR code with their phone to get the URL instantly — without voice assistants, screenshots, or manual typing.
