Is the content encrypted?

The connection uses HTTPS/WSS (TLS encryption) for all communication. Content is held exclusively in server memory during the session and is never written to disk, a database, or any log file. Only parties with the room code can access the session.

How long does a session last?

You choose the session lifetime: 5, 15, or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. When the timer expires all content is permanently deleted from memory. The default is 15 minutes which covers most use cases.

What is Read Once mode?

In Read Once mode the session content is permanently deleted from the server the moment the receiving device confirms it has been read. After that, anyone who tries to access the session will see an empty or expired message. It is ideal for one-time passwords and sensitive text.

Can multiple people join the same session?

Yes. Anyone with the room code can join and read the session content. For sensitive information shared with one person only, use Read Once mode to ensure it is deleted after the first read.

Is there a character limit?

Each session supports up to 50,000 characters (approximately 50 KB of plain text) — enough for a long document, a full code snippet, or a detailed message.

Can I transfer files with the clipboard?

Currently only plain text is supported. File transfer support is on the roadmap for a future update. For now, you can share file contents (such as code files or CSV data) as plain text.

What happens to the content after the session expires?

When a session expires the content is immediately purged from server memory. There is no recovery mechanism — expired sessions and their content are gone permanently. Make sure you have copied the text before the session timer runs out.

About Online Clipboard

Online Clipboard is a secure, real-time text sharing tool that lets you send text between any two devices instantly — phone to laptop, desktop to tablet, or any combination — without email, messaging apps, or cloud accounts. Create a session on one device, paste your text, and share it to the other device by scanning the QR code or entering the 6-character room code. Text syncs live over an encrypted WebSocket connection. The optional Read Once mode deletes the content the moment the receiver reads it, making it ideal for sharing passwords, OTPs, and sensitive text. Real-Time WebSocket Sync
Text syncs instantly over a persistent WebSocket connection as you type — there is no Submit button to click. The receiving device sees every character appear in real time, as if you were typing on the same keyboard.

How to Use

Open the Send tab and create a session
Go to the Online Clipboard, click the Send tab, choose your session expiry time, optionally enable Read Once mode, then click Create Clipboard Session. A 6-character room code and QR code are generated immediately.

Type or paste your text
Type or paste the text you want to share into the session editor. The text is available to the receiver as soon as you enter it — there is no send button.

Share the code or QR
Share the 6-character room code verbally, via message, or by showing the QR code on your screen for the other device to scan. The QR code links directly to the session.

Open the Receive tab on the other device
On the receiving device, go to the Online Clipboard and click the Receive tab. Either scan the QR code with the camera app or type the 6-character code and press Connect.

Read and copy the text
The shared text appears in the receive panel. Click Copy to copy it to the device clipboard for immediate use. If Read Once mode is active, the content is deleted from the server after you copy it.

Secure Password Sharing

A system administrator needs to share a temporary database password with a colleague sitting across the office. They open the clipboard, enable Read Once mode, paste the password, and show the QR code to their colleague. The colleague scans it, copies the password, and the server deletes it immediately. No messaging app history, no email thread, no clipboard residue on the server.

Copying Text from a Smart TV

A user is watching a YouTube video on a smart TV and wants to note down a URL or code shown on screen. They cannot type easily on the TV interface. A family member creates a clipboard session on their phone, types the URL, and the user on the TV scans the QR code with their phone to get the URL instantly — without voice assistants, screenshots, or manual typing.
